Authorities Seize $153K Worth of Fentanyl and Methamphetamine Along Nevada Boarder

After a massive discovery was made at the port of Newark, the biggest seizure within the last 25 years, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Port of Nogales, discovered over 46 pounds of methamphetamine and fentanyl on Tuesday from two separate drug searches.

According to the officers at Mariposa Crossing involved in the seizure, officers ordered the 25-year old Nogales woman for a second inspection of her BMW sedan while she attempted to enter the U.S. Tuesday morning from Mexico.

Officers noted that the referral for a second inspection came after officers were alerted by a CBP narcotics detection canine, who was able to detect the 44 pounds of methamphetamine.

The women had hidden the drug containers within the rocker panels of the sedan; the seized narcotics are said to be worth $133,000.

Just hours later, officers located at the pedestrian entrance of the Dennis DeConcini Crossing asked a 22-year-old U.S. citizen presently living in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, to undergo further questioning and search. As a result of the search, the officers discovered a little more than 1.5 pounds of fentanyl, that has a value of almost $21,000.

The reports stated that the young women had hidden the drugs under her arms and inside her jacket pockets. The officers confiscated the body cast that was wrapped around her arm to look like a puffy jacket. The suspect has been arrested and will be questioned if there was any connection between the two of them.

Both women are being held in custody.

The recent seizures of copious amounts of drugs have highlighted the reality in which legal ports remain the main point of entry through which illegal drugs flow, despite President Trumps claims that drugs are flooding over unsecured spots of the southern border to fund for the wall.
