N.J. Ex-priest ‘Credibly Accused’ of Sexual Abuse Discovered Shot to Death in Nevada

Since the flooding of charges coming from the Catholic church accusing the priest and teachers of pedophilia and molestation many priests have been convicted and let go, however, some have gone without any consequences.

A former New Jersey priest, who was accused of molesting young boys has been discovered shot to death in his Nevada home over the weekend.

According to police, they were conducting a welfare check Saturday and found the body of the late priest, John Capparelli, 70, at his home in Bonner Springs Drive in Henderson, Nevada.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office released the report that said Capparelli had been shot once in the neck and found in his kitchen around 5:10 p.m.

Just last months, Capparelli’s name and 187 other priests including deacons in the state had been “credibly accused” of sex crimes against children. This comes after New Jersey’s five Catholic dioceses were under intense pressure to identify clergy accused of sexual abuse.

Capparelli was suspended from the ministry back in the ’90s, after being accused of groping and brutalizing teenage boys. Twenty years after his release, the star-ledger discovered he was working as a public school teacher in Newark around hundred of young students; the state revoked all of his certificates.

Just like many who are accused yet never convicted, multiple young teens said that Capparelli forced them to wrestle in swimwear while he took photos, along with being affiliated with a fetish website that he ran from his New Jersey Home.

He was employed at Our Lady of Fatima in North Bergen, Oratory Prep in Summit, Holy Trinity in Westfield, St. Theresa in Kenilworth and Temporary Chaplain – Valley Hospital in Ridgewood.

After he was stripped of his certificates, Capparelli relocated from New Jersey to Nevada. According to public records he purchased the home in Henderson, a city with a population of 300,000, just outside of Las Vegas, just after he sold his house in Belleville in 2016.

Nevada authorities declined to release the details of his death but did categorize it as the department’s third homicide of the year.

“Preliminary investigation indicates the victim died of suspicious circumstances, and the incident is being investigated as a homicide,” police announced in the statement. “A suspect has not been identified at this time, and police are following up on developed leads.”

Police have announced the case is still being investigated. However, they will not be commenting any further on the victims’ death.

Capparelli’s body remained in the morgue and had not been claimed as of late Tuesday morning, according to an assistant at the Coroner’s office.
